Local SEO: a practical starting point for your business

Build a useful foundation for local SEO with accurate business information, relevant service pages and a simple way to measure search enquiries.

If you serve a particular area, your website should help customers understand both what you do and where you do it. Local SEO starts with an accurate description of the business and pages that answer the questions people ask before contacting you.

Make your service area clear

List the areas you actually serve and explain any relevant limits, such as collection availability or travel arrangements. A business that works remotely can say so directly. Do not imply a physical office in every city.

Check the business name, contact details and opening hours wherever you publish them. Review those details after a move, a phone number change or a change in how you handle appointments.

Build pages around real customer questions

Choose one service and list the questions you hear in conversations: who it is for, what is included, what the process involves and how to request a quote. Use those answers to outline the page.

A page for a specific area should offer information that is useful there, such as delivery arrangements or relevant examples. Repeating the same page with a different place name gives a visitor little reason to read it.

Help search engines understand the pages

Use clear page titles, descriptive headings and links between related services. Make important content accessible, and use Search Console to monitor indexing and search performance. These are foundations rather than a promise of a particular position in search results.

Measure enquiries, not just visits

Keep a simple record of where new enquiries come from and what service each person needs. Ask customers how they found you, and compare that information with the pages attracting search visits.

If a service page receives attention but few relevant enquiries, read it from a customer's perspective. Does it explain the offer? Is the service area obvious? Is the contact step easy? Improve one weak point at a time rather than rewriting the whole site every week.

Keep the information useful after launch

Set a recurring reminder to check the contact form, service details and examples of your work. Add answers when a question repeatedly comes up in client conversations. A useful update is one that helps a customer make a decision.
